CHICAGO UNDERGROUND PRACTICE (C_UP) was founded in 2012 as a design collaborative.
Stephanie Surjan (Hjelte Fumanelli) is digital design chair at C_UP.
S. Surjan received her B.Arch degree from Illinois Institute of Technology and has been a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee.
S. Surjan is currently teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Continuing Studies and Architecture, Interior Architecture and Deigned Objects.
Luca Surjan is Creative Director and 3D printing specialist for C_UP.
L. Surjan expertise is in toy design and product placement, his training and progressive vision in these fields has been completely autodidactic.
T. Joseph Surjan is Founding Chair at C_UP.
T.J. Surjan has taught at nine universities, including SCI-Arc, UCLA, Virginia Tech and
currently at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. T. J. Surjan received his M.Arch degree from Columbia University.
The Surjan’s work for C_UP has won the It’s Liquid 2nd International Contest for Illustration. C_UP placed in Reimagine the Astrodome which was published in the Architect's Newspaper. C_UP's story "Ivy Girl & the Cloverleaf" was published in the first edition of FAIRY TALES: WHEN ARCHITECTURE TELLS A STORY.
The Center of American Architecture and Design (CAAD) invited and included C_UP’s work in the Secret Life of Buildings exhibition.
As of 2017 C_UP’s work was included in the “Unsolicited SideShow” as part of the Chicago Architectural Biennial.
Most recently, C_UP has shifted from competition base work to self initiated projects.
CUP is currently working on representations which are experiential animations.
